Molly and Corry: Satellite Sleuths by Chris Hart

The wet grass shone in the early sun and the cold crisp air created armies of genies to enforce the commands she shouted across the field, but Jazzy was oblivious to her surroundings. The only thing in her life at that moment was âFluffâ her little black and white King Charles spaniel.
Her dad gave him to her as a present for her birthday and in the last 5 months, they had become inseparable. Each morning Jazzy had to get up early with her dad for his shifts and after breakfast that left her an hour before she had to go to school. She would come to the park and let Fluff play and get some exercise.
Jazzyâs mum was not very well and stayed at home all day, often she was looked after by nurses, carers or visitors and this had taken its toll on the family. Jasmine couldnât really remember the last time her mum had been well. Inside her head she knew that the barricade of nursing staff was preventing a normal relationship with her mum as she struggled to get better.
Despite knowing this, Jasmine slowly came to resent her mumâs illness and as a growing teen, that resentment somehow twisted itself into a rejection of her mum. Now little Jasmine no longer cried for her mum. She couldnât hear her, what was the point; leaving a sad Jazzy alone with her thoughts.
Jazzy had withdrawn into herself. She had worked through her problems and arrived at the conclusion that if she didnât get involved with people, if she liked no one, then no one could hurt her.
Fluff was her dadâs way of starting the healing process. Heâd been absorbed in his wifeâs anguish, heâd had to keep the family together; heâd had to be strong even when he didnât want to be, but he still noticed the pain his daughter was feeling.
The reports of Jazzyâs behaviour at school set alarm bells ringing and though he tried he could not appeal to his lovely daughter using only his words. He was dismayed that his concern and devotion to his wife had hurt his daughter. Fluff was the suggestion of his sister, Jazzyâs aunt May and it was working.
âFluff. Fluff!â Jasmine yelled across the field, a slight smile playing across her face, but that scoundrel Fluff had run into a clump of bushes at the far side. A tell tale line of disturbed dew traced the path Fluff had taken across the grass, just visible in the half light of the early autumn morning; sheâd need to dry him when she got him home. She thought about the cute way he would bite and shake his towel and she chuckled.
She continued to call as she walked towards the bushes, expecting her dog to leap out into her arms at any moment. Behind the bushes was a small wall separating the park from the pavement and road on the other side; too big for Fluff to leap, but there was no sign of the dog.
